Average review score:

This book is really A1
I have used this fantastic book since I was in College Preparatory Center (CPC) at Saudi Aramco. With this book, I was very prepared to the freshman year at my university KFUPM. Things I have liked about this book are:

1-If English is your second language, you will find this book very easy to understand as the authors used very simple level of English language.
2-Concepts are explained clearly.
3-Important Formulas are shaded and boxed.
4-A good number of examples are given at each section of every chapter of this book.
5-Answers to odd questions are given at the end of this book.

I always keep this book in the nearest shelf to my desk so that I can refer to it any time I need it. I am sure that you will refer to this book several times even when reach your senior year. I, also, recommend you to buy the Student's Solution Manual of this book because it will help you very much in solving your homework problems.

Allegra
Published in Paperback by New American Library (July, 1988)
Author: Sandy Miller
Average review score:

A Childhood Favorite That Has Kept It's Charm
From the first time I read it, back in junior high, to the most recent reading (a few months ago!) Allegra by Sandy Miller has never lost it's place in my heart. It is the story of a sheltered, much loved ten year old girl who loses everything when her parents are killed in a car accident - everything except her extraodinary musical talent. Devastated and lonely, Allegra throws herself into piano practice as a means of escape from her unloving relatives, now her guardians. With the help of a dedicated piano teacher, Allegra grows as a musician, and as a person, over the next several years as she learns to accept her new family for what they are, and for the first time in her life is confronted with another young pianist whose talent rivals her own. A wonderful story, with realistic characters, that still touches this "kid"'s heart with every reading.

Allergic Skin Diseases of Dogs and Cats
Published in Paperback by W B Saunders (15 January, 1997)
Authors: Lloyd M. Reedy, William H. Miller, and Ton Willemse
Average review score:

Vital addition to your Dog library
This is a well organized book that clearly defines potential skin problems of Dogs or Cats and then plots out a potential resolution that both the layman and the veterinarian alike can use to successfully assist the afflicted pet.

Helps educate the pet owner to ultimately assist the veterinarian with the proper diagnosis by delving comprehensively into the subject of skin disease, its' causative factors and curative possibilities to assist in the proper final diagnosis, which with skin ailments, is sometimes never possible to pin down.

My only wish is that a new, revised addition would be published that would reflect some of the newer drug therapies that have become available since the books' original publication date in 1997.

Also a Mother: Work and Family As Theological Dilemma
Published in Paperback by Abingdon Press (June, 1994)
Author: Bonnie J. Miller-McLemore
Average review score:

Feminist and Mother DO go together.
One of the most honest looks at the spiritual journey of motherhood that I have read to date, Bonnie discusses the theological work of love, care, family and those most marginalized in our society: our children. While the author advocates for a model of shared parenting between mothers and fathers, she does not thoroughly address enough the issue of balnce for mothers, nor share enough of her own story or personal struggle in motherhood within this text. The places where Bonnie does include her journey and struggle do make this text engaging and easy to connect with for mothers and others who share responsibility for caring of children. A must read for anyone involved in Christian ministry. Wish more Catholic priests woule take a look at this one to get a better handle on the theology of motherhod, as mothers are probably the most theologically invisible persons in some Christian settings. Lifting mothers from the limitations of oppresive commentary, Bonnie brings dignity and validity to the vocation of motherhood and celebrates the child in her writing. A great gift for mothers, a must read for women's studies students, professors, pastoral ministers, and a great insight for husbands, fathers and all who are in relationship with mothers who care for our most precious children.

Always Merry and Bright: The Life of Henry Miller: An Unauthorized Biography
Published in Paperback by Viking Press (July, 1980)
Author: Jay. Martin
Average review score:

The Best Miller Biography
I have been a fan of Henry Miller since the early 1960's, when to read his banned work meant trekking up to the Treasure Room of Columbia University's library and having the book delivered to your carrel, a la the research scene in Citizen Kane. When Jay Martin's bio of Henry was published in 1978 I read it immediately with great pleasure. On Henry's birth centenary in 1991 two more biographies came out, which I read, and I'm writing to say Martin's is the best. Incidentally, in June 2002 while driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles on a little tour, in Big Sur I passed a Henry Miller institute/library, and did a u-turn after a few seconds of realization that this was probably my last chance to pay homage. What a throwback to the '60's (which, btw, I don't think Henry was a fan of.) Anyway, I recommend the pilgrimage for all of Henry's fans.

Very good historical account of religious communes.
I think this is an excellent account of religious communes, spiritual collectives and intentional communities throughout the US during a hundred year period. Timothy Miller is a recognized authority on this subject and it is clearly evident in his book. Highly recommended.

American Indian Games
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 2001)
Author: Jay Miller
Average review score:

Lacrosse and beyond
"American Indian Games," by Jay Miller, is a good educational book for younger readers. It has an easy-to-read text, and is richly illustrated with many photographs.

This book tells about many of the games and toys of Native Americans, both in the past and present. Among the topics covered are "jabber" toys (used to challenge hand-eye coordination), snowsnake (a game that involves throwing a spear along a groove in snow or ice), and more. There are many fascinating photos, such as one of sled made from buffalo ribs.

The book covers lacrosse, which is probably the best known traditional American Indian sport. The author notes that some Native American peoples play a one-racket version, whereas some play a two-racket version (both types are shown in the photos). The book also discusses Native American participation in games and sports introduced by the Europeans. Overall, a very interesting book.
